The average cost of training varies and depends on which U.S. state the student resides in, how long the program is, and whether they’re taking classes at a local school or an online program.
Cost Of Certificate or Diploma Program Tuition
The average cost of certificate training and diploma program tuition is between about $15,000 and $24,000. This price, of course, depends on which school you choose to attend, the length of the program, where it is located, and the type of equipment and training they provide, and more. This estimate does not include the cost of books, transportation and other fees. Remember, financial aid may be available to help you through scholarships, grants, or loans.

- Florida Technical College - Florida Technical College is designed to prepare you to enter into an entry-level position as a medical assistant. You'll learn various technical examinations and procedures, as well as be eligible for certification as a National Certified Medical Assistant from the National Center for Competency Testing.
- Fortis Institute - Fortis offers two excellent programs to prepare students to enter into the workforce as medical assistants. You have the opportunity to choose between the standard medical assisting program or medical assisting with basic x-ray operation.
- Miller-Motte College - Miller-Motte offers a hybrid track program so you can pursue online learning with hands-on experience. You will also be able to participate in an externship with the program to strengthen your skills.
- Rockford Career College - At Rockford Career College, you'll learn about the best clinical and clerical practices, develop medical communication and critical thinking, complete an externship to gain hands-on experiences, and more! This program can be completed in as few as 10 months.
Cost Of Associate Degree Program Tuition
The average cost of medical assisting associate degree programs is between about $34,000 and $53,000 for a 2 year program. As with certificate programs, the cost will vary based on many factors like the school's location, the length of the program, the equipment and training provided, and more. Estimates do not include all costs such as books, personal expenses, room and board, or other fees.

- Keiser University - Keiser's Medical Assisting Associate will prepare you for various clinical, clerical, and administrative duties including measuring vital signs, giving injections, venipuncture, and more. You will also be prepared to take the Registered Medical Assistant Exam.
- South College - As a part of South College's Medical Assisting Associate program, you will learn medical billing/coding, patient care management, taking medical history, and more. This program will give you practical instruction to give a competitive advantage in an expanding field.
Cost Of Online Medical Assisting Programs
Online medical assisting programs where you complete at your own pace may cost a little less than the equivalent on-campus program. There are online certification training and associate degree programs available at many schools. Ask your school’s admissions representative to get up-to-date online medical assistant program pricing information.
Cost Of Certification After Completing School
After completing a medical assisting program the student must take a certification exam.
One exam is given by the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) and costs either $125 or $250 depending on if you are a recent graduate or and/or a member of the AAMA.
American Medical Technologists also has the Registered Medical Assistant Exam (RMA). The exam costs $135.
