You must graduate from an accredited medical assisting school or program.
You must register with the South Dakota Board of Medical and Osteopathic Examiners (SDBMOE).
Certification is not required but it is highly recommended.
To be eligible for your Registered Medical Assisting or Certified Medical Assistant designations, you must: Pass an accredited medical assisting program if you're becoming certified through the AAMA. Or, meet the eligibility standards to be certified through the AMT. Fill out the online application and mail it in along with the required fee. Once your application has been processes, schedule to take the exam. You must pass the exam to become certified. To keep your certification current, you must:
Pay the annual renewal fee. AMT: Every 3 years, complete the continuing education credits. AAMA: Get re-certified every 60 months through CEUs, or take the recertification exam.
