The Health Staff Training Institute’s Phlebotomy Technician I certificate are designed to train students with the skills and knowledge to perform skin and Venipuncture procedures in a safe clinical environment. This course is approved by the California Department of Health Services, Laboratory Field Services Division and upon successful completion of the course the student will have national certification as well as State of California Certification as a Certified Phlebotomy Technician I.

HSTI’s Medical Billing & Coding program is designed to provide the student with the skills and knowledge necessary to successfully perform multifaceted functions in a doctor’s office. Knowledge of insurance providers is emphasized along with medical terminology, anatomy, and the training to perform basic techniques in billing and coding.
Students receive instruction in pharmacy law and drug legislation, drug nomenclature, dosage forms, weights, measures and calculations. Emphasis is placed on terminology, anatomy and physiology as it relates to various diagnoses, medications, drug classifications, chemotherapy and antibiotic, automated drug distribution, sterile preparation and extemporaneous compounding.
Students are required to participate in a 240-hour externship in an approved hospital or pharmacy where they will perform various pharmacy functions. Upon completion of the Pharmacy Technician program, students are prepared to make a smooth transition into the workplace with the on-the-job experience gained from the externship.
