Become a licensed medical social worker in Iowa
Bachelor Level Social Worker (BLSW)
You must get your BSW from an accredited program.
Register online or via a hard copy for your license. Pay the application fee and include an official college transcript that should come directly from the college. After your application has been approved, take the ASWB bachelor's exam. You must score 96-105 to pass. There are 170 questions. The Iowa Board will receive your score from ASWB, and then you'll receive your license. Master Level Social Worker (MLSW)
You must get your MSW from an accredited program.
Register online or via a hard copy for your license. Pay the application fee and include an official college transcript that should come directly from the college. After your application has been approved, take the ASWB master's exam. You must score 96-105 to pass. There are 170 questions. The Iowa Board will receive your score from ASWB, and then you'll receive your MLSW license. Licensed Independent Social Worker (LISW)
You must have a MSW or doctorate from an accredited program. You must also have work experience prior to being eligible for licensing.

You need 2 years of full time, supervised postgraduate social work experience in psychological assessment, diagnosis, and treatment. Or, 4,000 hours of your postgraduate social work performing those same tasks over the last 2, but not more than 6, years. But, it must include 110 hours of supervision with no more than 60 of those hours performed in a group setting. After your application has been approved, take the ASWB clinical level exam. You must score 96-105 to pass. There are 170 questions. The Iowa Board will receive your score from ASWB, and then you'll receive your license. You license must be renewed every 2 years.

You must complete 27 hours of continuing education within the 2 year renewal period.
