VCMC’s Medical Billing and Coding curriculum provides our students with the basic knowledge and skills, that will qualify each of them to become an entry-level Medical Biller and Coder, performing front office duties as a clerk working in clinics, hospitals, doctor’s offices, and/or medical group practices.
The program also provides VCMC students with the training and knowledge to work as a Health Claims Examiner for insurance companies. Medical Billing and Coding students will be exposed to billing forms, and eligibility guidelines for CHAMPVA, TRICARE, Medicare, Medicaid/Medi-Cal, and Workmans’ Compensation and Disability.
VCMC students will learn the use, of ICD-10 and CPT books, for coding diagnoses and procedures. Students will use computers, to practice and perform medical billing simulations, using Medi-Soft.
The Medical Billing and Coding program (medical biller) at VCMC is designed to teach our students medical office duties, computer applications, office procedures, insurance coding, business communications skills, job readiness techniques, and personal development skills. The objective, of a Medical Biller & Coder, is to expertly take care of all of the administrative responsibilities of the medical employer. Valley College of Medical Careers’ Medical Assistant Training Program is designed to teach students, medical front office and back office duties, computer applications, office procedures, business communication skills, job readiness techniques, and the personal development skills essential for a successful medical career.
Graduates should be able to perform the duties of a Medical Assistant and may look forward to employment in doctors’ offices, hospitals, emergency care offices, clinics, and other offices in a medical environment. The overall objective of the Medical Assistant training program is to prepare the student for an entry-level position in the medical field as a front and/or back office assistant.
Upon successful completion of the medical assistant training program, the graduate will be able to perform EKGs, prepare strips for evaluation, perform venipunctures, collect specimens, collect patient data, perform vital signs, CPR, and First Aid, perform simple lab tests (Urinalysis, Hematocrit), prepare patients for physical examinations, and assist physicians in minor surgeries. Anatomy & Physiology, along with Medical Terminology, will be emphasized.
VCMC arranges externships, for students, so that they can gain practical experience in the medical field.

The Pharmacy Technician program, at Valley College of Medical Careers, will teach students pharmacy operations and procedures, computer applications, job readiness techniques, personal development, and basic pharmacology skills.
VCMC graduates may find employment in retail pharmacies, hospital pharmacies, and other clinical drug environments. The VCMC Pharmacy Technician program provides our students with the basic knowledge and skills that will qualify them to work as entry-level Pharmacy Technicians.
Upon successful completion of the training, the VCMC Pharmacy Technician graduate will be able to identify and understand drug nomenclature, dosage forms, routes of administration, and abbreviations used in pharmacy, identify the most common medications by their trade and generic names, perform conversions and/or calculations of weights and measures, understand California pharmacy law, understand basic pharmacology, perform pharmacy operations of the Drug Distribution system, and sterile product preparation.

The Surgical Technologist program, at Valley College of Medical Careers, is a 1,680 – program. Where students earn an Associate of Occupational Sciences degree. This comprehensive course of study combines General Education, Theory, and Clinical Practice.
The course curriculum is designed to provide qualified individuals with an opportunity to acquire the knowledge, training, and skills, which will enable them to become experienced, safe, and competent practitioners of Surgical Technology.
To become certified, VCMC graduates–enrolled in the course program–must successfully complete the Examination conducted by the National Board of Surgical Technologists and Surgical Assistants, (NBSTSA), formerly the Liaison Council for Certification of Surgical Technologists (LCC-ST). Completion of the General Education requirements, for the AOS Degree program, may help students transfer to a higher level of educational experience. With a higher education and experience level, graduates have the potential to advance in their career with higher wages and better benefits. The award of transfer credit is at the discretion of other institutions and is not guaranteed.
The program includes mandatory participation in a 600-hour Surgical Technology Externship that must be completed prior to graduation.
