The University maintains its original mission in liberal arts, business, education, law, medicine, engineering and mines; and has also developed special missions in nursing, fine arts, aerospace, energy, human resources, and international studies. It provides a wide range of challenging academic programs for undergraduate, professional and graduate students through the doctoral level. The University encourages students to make informed choices, to communicate effectively, to be intellectually curious and creative, to commit themselves to lifelong learning and the service of others, and to share responsibility both for their own communities and for the world. The University promotes cultural diversity among its students, staff and faculty.
HTs frequently work under pressure to deliver results while a patient is in surgery. They work with fragile, delicate tissue specimens, laboratory instruments, knives, chemicals, and glass slides. A HT must value precision and be comfortable working with equipment and test processes that require careful monitoring. Traits of a successful HT include: hand eye coordination, a positive attitude, organizational skills, the ability to solve problems, and college-level knowledge in sciences.
Medical laboratory scientists, sometimes referred to as clinical laboratory scientists or medical technologists, are key members of the health care team. They are concerned with the study and practice of diagnostic medicine by generating accurate and reliable test results in chemistry, hematology, immunology, immunohematology, and microbiology. The results provide valuable information that is used to diagnose and treat disease.
The UND MLS program offers on-campus and online options for students who have educational training as a Medical/Clinical Laboratory Technician (MLT/CLT) who are interested in pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Science. The MLT-to BS in MLS online program allows experienced working professionals to complete degree requirements while remaining in their current position. The online MLT program does not required an on-campus component. Our MLT program advisor, Paul Samson, works with each student individually to create an unique program of study that is built around each student's needs.
