This program is perfect for you if you have a natural compassion for patients, and are interested in developing administrative and clinical skills to assist providers in routine medical care. Our graduates have also been successful in moving up into medical office manager positions.
A Medical Assistant diploma allows you to perform both clinical and administrative duties.
As a medical assistant, you can work in a physician's office, primary care facility, clinic or other similar outpatient facilities. Medical assistants' duties are different according to the place of employment, but usually include administrative tasks such as answering phones, scheduling appointments, maintaining medical records, registering patients, and billing / insurance. Duties also include clinical tasks such as drawing blood, taking vital signs, performing injections and EKGs, and assisting the physician with in-office procedures. Our program can be completed in 12 months for those in our day classes, or in 18 months for students in our evening / online courses.
The objective of the Limited Medical Radiography program is to prepare students to perform x-ray (radiographic) examinations in clinics, physicians’ offices, dentists’ offices, public health institutions, and urgent care centers. Students will be able to prepare patients for radiographic examinations by explaining the procedure and ensuring proper positioning of both the patient and the radiographic equipment. Graduates of this program are eligible to take the Kentucky State Limited Radiography exam through the Radiation Health Branch.
One of the most popular medical careers, nursing offers you a chance to work in hospitals or doctor’s offices. A nurse works under the direction of a doctor or a nurse practitioner and the main duties are to dispense medication, start IVs, take vital signs, operate some medical equipment and directly care for patients. Nurses do not generally diagnose conditions, but may report patient symptoms or changes in conditions to doctors. The Associate of Applied Science Degree in Nursing (A.A.S.) program enables Licensed Practical Nurses the opportunity to pursue the role of the professional registered nurse. Graduates of the program are eligible to apply to the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) to sit for the exam and to become a registered nurse. Core components of the program of study include professional behaviors, communication, assessment, clinical decision making, evidence-based practice, caring interventions, teaching and learning, collaboration with members of the healthcare team, and the management of patient care.
The Practical Nursing program prepares graduates to be employed within the discipline of nursing, in a variety of structured health care settings under the supervision of the registered nurse or physician. After successful program completion, graduates are eligible to apply to a state board of nursing for licensure by examination. Upon licensure, the graduate may be employed as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) and practice to the scope allowed by law. A student will gain on-the-job experience in the clinical phases of nursing. This is accomplished in a variety of health care facilities under the supervision of qualified nursing faculty. This program is offered in both the day and evening divisions.
The mission of the Radiologic Technology program is to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to perform the duties of an entry-level Radiologic Technologist. Students will be instructed on the proper administration of ionizing radiation for the purpose of medical diagnosis with an emphasis on radiation protection to ensure quality patient care. The program is accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT). Graduates are eligible to apply for the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (AART) Registry Examination.
The objective of the AAS Surgical Technology program is to utilize learning experiences in the cognitive, psychomotor, and affective domains to prepare students for entry-level employment positions and then future advancement in today’s surgical technology profession.
