About

Florida Technical College was founded in 1982 to provide post-secondary training in specialized business fields. The main campus in Orlando opened in 1982, followed by the Lakeland campus in 1990, and the DeLand campus in 1997. Classes began at the Kissimmee, Pembroke Pines, and Tampa campuses in 2011, and the South Miami campus opened in 2015.

After 40 years of serving Florida’s educational needs, Florida-Technical College has merged with NUC University which until now had been a sister Institution. In addition, NUC University brought two other colleges under its umbrella, The Digital Animation & Visual Effects (DAVE) School in Florida and IBC Institute in Puerto Rico, for a combined total of 15 campuses and 20,000 students in both Puerto Rico and Florida.

Medical Assistant Technician - Diploma

The Medical Assistant Technician Diploma Program is designed to prepare students to obtain entry-level employment as a medical assistant technician. This program offers students the opportunity to learn the necessary knowledge and skills both in the classroom and in a supervised clinical practice or capstone. The students learn how to prepare patients for various technical examinations such as EKGs and phlebotomy, as well as how to perform several such procedures. Students are eligible for certification for: National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) from the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT), CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) Certification, First Aid Certification, and BLS (Basic Life Support) Certification.

A total of 720/760 contact hours is required and divided into 220 lecture hours, 420/500 lab hours, and 120 externship hours. Employment opportunities Clinical Assistant, Lab Technician, Optometric Assistant, and Registered Medical Assistant

Medical Billing and Coding Specialist - Diploma

The Medical Billing and Coding Specialist Diploma Program provides an essential service to the healthcare industry from a calm and comfortable office environment. Professionals in this field create and manage important medical documentation. This is one of the few medical fields that typically involves little or no direct contact with patients. Successful graduates of the FTC Medical Billing & Coding Specialist Diploma Program can enter the professional workforce in approximately 11 months! If you are looking for a professional office career that offers meaningful, rewarding work opportunities, medical billing and coding could be an excellent career path for you. The Medical Billing and Coding Specialist Diploma Program will train students to obtain entry-level positions in healthcare administrative offices through a combination of clinical and administrative training. The program is focused on preparing students for certification. Students are eligible for certification for: (NCICS) National Certified Insurance and Coding Specialist from the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT).

Employment opportunities are Medical Biller, Medical Coder, Medical Records, and Medical Insurance Specialist.

Medical Assistant Technician with Emphasis in Basic X-Ray - Diploma

The Medical Assistant Technician with Emphasis in Basic X-Ray Diploma program prepares students with the knowledge and skills to perform medical assistant with basic x-ray responsibilities. The student will acquire the necessary skills, to perform under the supervision of a physician, to provide medical office administrative services and perform clinical duties including patient intake and care, routine diagnostic, and basic x-ray procedures. Students will be able to prepare the patient for various examinations, including x-rays, electrocardiograms, and phlebotomy.

A total of 960/1,000 contact hours is requires and divided into 300 lecture hours, 580/660 lab hours, and 120 externship hours. Employment opportunities are Basic Machine Operator Medical Assistant, Clinical Assistant, Radiation Technician Assistant, and Registered Medical Assistant.

Allied Health Management - Bachelor's Degree

The Bachelor’s Degree program in Allied Health Management is comprised of a combination of courses, which provide skills in such areas as managing the administrative area within a health services organization, current procedural coding with information technology, and basic clinical and lab procedures. The program is designed to prepare a student for a career as an administrator in the health services field.

When graduates from this program have work experience in the medical field, upon completion of this program they can apply for healthcare management. The duration of the program is 27 months and a total of 184 quarter credits. Depending on graduates concentration track, they will quality to sit for one of the following exams through the American Academy of Professional Coders™ (AAPC), Certified Professional Coder (CPC) exam, Certified Physician Practice Manager (CPPM®) exam or Licensure of Basic Machine Operator through the Dept of Health State of Florida.

Admission Requirements

A student must first successfully graduate from an Allied Health (Medical Assistant Technician, Billing and Coding, or other) diploma or degree program, from either NUC-FTC or another accredited institution, as a prerequisite for enrolling into the Allied Health Management Bachelor program. External transcripts must be evaluated by Academic Affairs to determine transfer of credits accepted into the program.
