Become a licensed medical social worker in Nebraska
Certified Master Social Worker (CMSW)
You must have a BSW from an accredited program. You must be at least 19 years old.
You must complete the application, submit the required documents, and pay the licensing application fee. You are not required to take an exam. Once your license application is approved, you are considered a licensed certified social worker. Certified Master Social Worker (CMSW)
You must have your MSW from an accredited or approved program.
You must complete 3,000 supervised social work experience hours. Complete the licensing application, include the required documentation and proof of work experience hours, plus the payment for the licensing fee. You must pass the ASWB generalist exam. If you want to be a licensed clinical social worker, then you must take the ASWB clinical exam instead. Once your licensing application is complete, and you've passed the exam, you will be a CMSW and are permitted to practice advanced social work in Nebraska. Licensed Mental Health Practitioner (LMHP)
You must first have your CMSW license, but you can get it and your LMHP at the same time. You need to have your MSW from an accredited program and be at least 19 years old.
You must complete 3,000 supervised social work experience hours. Complete the licensing application, include the required documentation and proof of work experience hours, plus the payment for the licensing fee. You must pass the ASWB clinical exam. You need to answer 96-105 of the 170 questions correctly. Once your licensing application is complete, and you've passed the exam, you will be a CMSW and are permitted to practice advanced social work in Nebraska. You must renew your license every year by September 1st.
Certified social workers do not need any continuing education hours. LMPH's and CMSW's need to complete 32 continuing education credits annually.
