Medical office administrators perform a wide range of administrative activities, such as organizing files, preparing documents, scheduling appointments, checking in patients, and collecting payments. Additionally, you may be responsible for helping order supplies, assisting staff with various office functions, handling mail, and recordkeeping.
You may work with patients to record their medical histories, assist with arrangements for services such as hospitalization, or process insurance payments.
This online training program will teach you to perform these administrative and clerical skills so that you can contribute and support a medical office in a meaningful way.
The 48-week program does not require an internship or practicum and can be completed entirely online. Additionally, there is no certification required to work in this field so you can get started immediately upon graduation. IMBC’s career services team will help you search for and apply to various job openings.
You’re the type of person others call “detail-oriented,” and you enjoy working with data, information, and computers. In fact, you enjoy computers so much that you’re ready to earn your diploma online.
The healthcare and health insurance industries generate an enormous number of medical and patient records. In a medical billing and coding career, you are responsible for classifying individual diagnoses and medical procedures for billing and reimbursement purposes with ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS and PCS codes. You’ll typically work in an office environment at a computer workstation reviewing electronic healthcare records (or EHR).
You’ll learn about medical terminology and the reference codes used for reimbursement between the doctor’s office or hospital and the insurance companies. You’ll also study office management, computer basics, medical terminology, and anatomy and physiology. Students in this program will receive hands-on training in medical billing software and in the completion, submission, and claims resolution techniques for CMS-1500 and UB04 forms.
Veterinary technicians assist veterinarians with a wide variety of procedures and tasks, typically at veterinary hospitals and clinics. That means you’ll be supporting veterinary doctors with lab procedures, exams, and animal care. You’ll also work with pet owners and animal care providers to provide education and guidance for proper care and treatment, based upon the doctor’s instructions. Your patients might include exotic animals, birds, large animals, and household pets, such as cats and dogs.
The ANNA West shelter is one of our many clinical sites directly on our campus. Throughout your program, you’ll interact with companion and exotic animals that are brought directly into the classroom labs.
Toward the completion of your vet tech program, all students will participate in an externship that lets you practice your new skills in a real veterinary setting with professional supervision. Before beginning an externship, you will be required to meet the following:
- Ability to tolerate walking and standing for sustained and prolonged periods of time (85% of the workday).
- Capable of lifting from floor to waist level and/or carrying up to fifty pounds unassisted frequently and more with assistance occasionally.
- Ability to bend over at the waist, twist the trunk, squat, kneel, reach above the head, and have sufficient grip strength. Have the body size, conformation, and fitness to do the physical work required of a technician.
- Ability to see, to speak in English, and to hear well enough to communicate observations about animals, and to possess arm and hand steadiness — as well as finger dexterity — to operate equipment and work with animals.
- Obtain medical insurance prior to the start of the clinical procedures course.
MAs perform a wide variety of functions, depending on the type of office they work within. Administrative duties might include supporting, scheduling, and communicating with patients; documenting vitals; billing; and general office management.
At the same time, MAs may have clinical responsibilities, such as taking vital signs; explaining procedures; preparing patients for exams; taking medical histories; and helping doctors and nurses during procedures, such as lab work collection, administering medications, authorizing pharmacies to refill prescriptions, performing diagnostic tests, changing dressings, managing equipment, and more.
As an MA, you may also have phlebotomy tasks, such as drawing blood samples from patients to test for illness and health conditions. Depending on where you work, you may also be entering patient, specimen, and insurance information into billing systems; organizing blood-drawing trays; and taking inventories of, and sterilizing equipment.
Toward the completion of your program, students participate in an internship that lets you practice your new skills in a real healthcare setting with professional supervision.
Nurses perform a vital role in the American healthcare system. From measuring vital signs to giving injections, administering medications to assisting physicians with procedures, they’re the heart and soul of the medical field. Get started in this rewarding field by earning your Associate in Specialized Technology (AST) degree in Practical Nursing at IMBC.
In this program, you will build a strong foundation for working in medicine as you master the fundamentals of nursing, including anatomy and physiology. You’ll learn how to assist with care throughout the life cycle and care for patients from infancy to the geriatric stages of life.
