West Virginia Junior College was established in 1892 in Charleston, West Virginia. WVJC expanded its program offerings, student services, and employer services to Monongalia in 1922 and Harrison counties in 2002, establishing campuses in Morgantown, WV, and Bridgeport, WV.
WVJC has continued to remain on the cutting edge of education to ensure that students have academic options that meet the demands of an ever-changing, technologically-driven employment market. During these past several years, in addition to our other in-demand programs, WVJC has developed residential Nursing and hybrid online Nursing programs to help students take advantage of the growing healthcare field.
Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs)* are versatile caregivers that provide routine care for sick and injured patients. Licensed Practical Nurses work in conjunction with other healthcare professionals adhering to care plans for patients, and typically have the following skills:
In addition to your practical nurse training, this program also prepares you for phlebotomy, IV therapy, and EKG certifications. These professional certifications should boost employment opportunities with cardiologists, medical labs, and hospitals.
*Passing the NCLEX-PN exam is required to become a Licensed Practical Nurse.
The online Nursing program for Parkersburg area students benefits from having the WVJC Bridgeport campus as the home campus location. In addition, online nursing students benefit from having administration, staff, and nursing faculty in Bridgeport. The Parkersburg online Nursing program offers students the opportunity to take nursing classes online while receiving lab and clinical training at local area hospitals and clinics.
The WVJC Bridgeport online Nursing program is structured so that students take the didactic components of their nursing classes online; while also completing their lab and clinical instruction at local hospitals and medical facilities near the Martinsburg and Parkersburg areas.
Students who complete this nursing training program will be conferred an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) and be eligible to sit for the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN)*.
*Passing the NCLEX-RN exam is required to become a Registered Nurse.
