About

You won’t find a year’s worth of general education courses as part of any student’s schedule here: instead, we’ve done away with the unrelated curriculum and focused each program on the skills and training that a graduate will need when they start their new career. So a nursing student isn’t required to study US History I, and an IT student doesn’t need to take Philosophy 101. This means students can graduate in significantly less time, often in months not years. For example, the LPN day program is just 12 months in length, and the electrician apprenticeship day program schedule is only 9 months.

Every path of study at Eastwick has been developed to meet a specific job market demand and is backed by a robust set of industry certifications and affiliations. For example, students of the diagnostic cardiovascular sonography associate degree are able to sit for seven different certifications (RMA, CET, CPT, CCT, RCS, RVS, and SPI) and can return later and transfer their previous credits to the bachelor degree path. The program is also approved by CAAHEP, providing some of the best career opportunities for graduates.

One thing you won’t see are students worrying whether they’ll get into the classes they need that semester: each student at Eastwick College is guaranteed the classes they need to graduate on time, including externships for those in medical programs. By providing students with an optimized set of classes for each semester, you’re able to focus more on your studies and less on scheduling conflicts. It also saves you money, as there is no need to take extra semesters just to finish one or two classes that weren’t available previously, as is often the case at many traditional four-year colleges.

Medical Assisting

Medical assistants are often the first person someone sees when they step into the doctor’s office, working at the front desk where they greet patients, schedule appointments and filing a patient’s medical records. When they’re not handling traditional office duties, medical assistants perform a variety of medical tasks, which can include taking medical histories and recording vital signs, explaining procedures to patients, preparing patients for examinations and assisting physicians.

The objective of the Medical Assisting Science program is to prepare an individual to enter the medical field in the capacity of medical assistant, medical office manager or medical secretary. Other opportunities exist in the hospital setting as a patient care technician, ECG technician, stress test technician, phlebotomist, unit secretary, or ward clerk.

Diagnostic Cardiovascular Sonography

Eastwick College’s Bachelor of Science in Diagnostic Cardiovascular Sonography (BS-DxCV) program is structured as a bridge from our AAS in Diagnostic Cardiovascular Sonography, with additional managerial and technical skills to provide enhanced career opportunities in the areas of registered non-invasive echocardiographer, vascular technologist, or cardiovascular technician.

Graduates of the program will be eligible to apply for the following credentials administered by Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI): Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) and Registered Vascular Specialist (RVS); and for the following credentials administered by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS): Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) and Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT).

Licensed Practical Nursing

Our nursing program fully prepares you to begin a career as a licensed practical nurse. We stand out from many other nursing schools in the area as we provide clinical rotations for all of our LPN students as part of their schedule.

The LPN program at Eastwick College features specialized lab setting classrooms that are designed to emulate many of the conditions and procedures you’ll encounter in your new career as a nurse. Skills covered in hands-on training approach include: vital signs, ambulation and transfer assistance of patients, physical assessment, wound care, tracheostomy care, ostomy management, intravenous therapy, cauterization, and medication administration.

Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA)

Occupational therapy is a field dedicated to helping people who have or are at risk for disabilities caused by a disease or injury to obtain optimal level of daily functioning. The American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) defines occupational therapy as the therapeutic use of everyday life activities.

(Occupations) with individuals or groups for the purpose of participation in roles and situations at home, school, workplace, community, and other settings. Occupational therapy services are provided for the purpose of promoting health and wellness and to those who have or are at risk for developing an illness, injury, disease, disorder, condition, impairment, disability, activity limitation, or participation restriction. Occupational therapy addresses the physical, cognitive, psychosocial, sensory-perceptual, and other aspects of performance in a variety of contexts to support engagement in everyday life activities that affect health, well-being, and quality of life.

Areas of practice, under the supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist in the state of practice exist in skilled care facilities, rehabilitation hospitals and centers, public and private schools, early intervention, preschools, hospitals (general, psychiatric, and pediatric), hand centers, community living programs and shelters, day treatment centers, ergonomic and work safety programs, hospices and home health agencies, wellness and accessibility programs, work hardening and vocational programs, and assistive technology centers.

Upon successful completion of the academic and fieldwork portions of the program, students are eligible to sit for the National Board or Certification in Occupational Therapy Exam (NBCOT) Exam.

Most states require occupational therapy assistants to be licensed. Licensure requires completing a program accredited by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) and becoming Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants (COTA) by passing the certification examination for the occupational therapy assistant offered by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy, Inc. (NBCOT). Note: A history of a felony conviction may preclude eligibility to sit for the exam and obtain professional licensure. Contact NBCOT for further information.

Registered Nursing

Registered nursing (RN) is one of the most popular careers in healthcare, and it’s no wonder why: with a wide range of exciting skillsets and excellent salary potential, registered nursing is a rewarding path of study for a student with a passion for the medical field.

RNs work independently or in collaboration with physicians and members of other health care disciplines, writing and managing patient care plans, assessing patient symptoms, provide assistance during examinations and treatments, and administering medications.

As a student in the registered nursing program, you’ll study in a fully equipped hospital laboratory setting, including high-tech patient simulators that feature sophisticated vital signs such as respirations and pulse. You will also gain hands-on experience during clinical rotations at local hospitals, included as part of your schedule.

Surgical Technology

Surgical technologists are key members of the healthcare field, working in skilled teams to assist with life- saving procedures. They help set up a sterile operating area and provide optimal patient care before surgery. During surgery, they assist the operating team in all phases of the surgical procedure.

As a student in the surgical technology program, you will be immersed in a complete surgical operating room setting, where you will learn a wide variety of procedures used in the operating room and how to work in high- pressure situations. Under the supervision of a surgical professional, you receive instruction in essentials of healthcare, role of the surgical technologist, surgical instrumentation, anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, and pharmacology.
